Wedding Generosity During COVID !

Posted on July 31, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

Join us with a story of Generosity during Snuffin’s Wedding Season shut-down in WA State:

Yesterday we talked to one of our wedding couples for 2021 – the Groom had just lost his job and they didn’t know how they could afford their wedding.  They are devastated.

Also yesterday, a couple called needing to cancel their September wedding catering with Snuffin’s.  Turning their disappointment into positive action, they requested that we apply their deposit to another couple that is struggling with their wedding plans.

What a kind and generous gift!  We are delighted to make this happen for the two couples!

Tacoma Catering & Wedding Update

Posted on June 21, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

HOORAY, friends and clients, we are moving forward!

As of June 19, 2020, WA State has amended rules for Wedding Receptions and Funerals/Memorial Receptions.

Starting with (current) Pierce County Phase 2, gatherings in indoor spaces are allowed with up to 25% of the room’s capacity or up to 200 guests, whichever is less, as long as 6 feet of physical distancing can be achieved between households.  Note that households (family that live together) may be seated together, otherwise the 6 foot distancing must be maintained.

Additional requirements for such events:  the room/space must have a dedicated outdoor entrance/exit and have restrooms.  Food service must comply with current phase guidance.  At this point, that means no self-service, buffets or salad/dessert bars.

These amended rules do not include rehearsal dinners, showers, engagement parties or other social events.

How will these changes affect your Wedding Reception or Memorial Receptions?  It will depend on the individual venue – their capacities and procedures.  Snuffin’s Catering will be working closely with all of our venues as we go forward.  We expect to have further guidance and possible changes depending on where we are in the COVID 19 pandemic.

It’s been such a hardship for families not to be able to celebrate their loved ones and for couples having to change or postpone their Wedding Celebrations.  We will continue to be flexible with your scheduling and any necessary changes in your guest count, menu and other items.

We are grateful for the patience and understanding of our clients as well as your continued support for Snuffin’s Catering.

Remember to continue wearing face masks and washing your hands – we’re all in this together!

What Is a Minimony Compared to a Microwedding?

This article from The Knot has interesting ideas on alternatives to a traditional wedding that might be of interest to our Tacoma Wedding couples:

What Is a Minimony Compared to a Microwedding? Here’s Why It Might Work for You

Wedding Update Snuffin’s Catering & Covid19

Posted on May 6, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

Greetings to all our current  & future wedding couples!

This has been such an uncertain time for us all!  Couples needing to reschedule or postpone their wedding plans, venues and caterers required to shut down operations.  Here are our current thoughts and plans for going forward:

Snuffin’s is continuing to follow all WA State mandates as to when we will be allowed to open our office and kitchen to ensure the safety of our clients and staff.  Once opened, testing of temperature for all staff will be conducted at the start of each day and for all service staff before beginning events.  We have plans in place for continued and enhanced cleaning of our office, kitchen and vehicles.  All staff will wear gloves and face masks in the office, kitchen and on events

When wedding and events resume, what will they look like?

  • We expect first allowed events will be limited to 50 guests to allow for physical distancing in seating and food service.  As our State moves into next phases, this will begin to change.  Guest numbers allowed will include both public venues & private  home events.
  • Physical distancing will be continued.  This will mean changes in setting up events, serving food and clean up.  Example:  bars may be reconfigured to allow for beverages to be picked up at a separate table.

What will likely change at your wedding reception?

  • We are working with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department on food service guidelines.  Either staffed buffet service or plated meals are options that would allow clients and staff to keep distance. (Think taped line on the floor like in grocery stores to allow for proper spacing.)
  • When first opened, all service ware will be disposable, bar ware included. (Quality disposables are available:  acrylic plates & flatware, palm leaf dishes, etc.)
  • We anticipate bars limited to beer and wine as opposed to full bar service as a means of reducing contact.  This could change as the crisis level improves.

What costs might be different from pre-pandemic estimates?

  • Right now we’re hearing media reports of supply chain difficulties.  Our food vendors report possible substitutions might be necessary and food prices will increase for the near future.  We will work diligently to provide you with the best quality menu items at the best pricing.  You may need to consider menu changes as we go forward.
  • Menu prices on our website are based on 100 or more guests.  Guest counts lower than 100 will increase due to kitchen labor costs.
  • We expect to need to schedule additional staff even for smaller events to allow for distancing and safe food service.

Cancellation and postponement policies:  Working from home, we are accommodating your changes with No Charge for date changes. For the early opening dates, we have changed the ½ payment due to one month prior to your wedding.  Final guest counts remain due at 2 weeks prior and final payment due 7 days prior.  Cancellation refunds are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Personally, I am thankful our Governor has been conservative in setting guidelines for physical distancing, Stay Home, Stay Safe, thoughtful openings and changes to procedures.  Many of our families and neighbors owe their health & lives to the sacrifices of medical personnel, first responders and other essential providers.  They are our heroes!

We can be heroes, too, by continuing to follow safety guidelines and caring for others!

Update on Snuffin’s Catering for Covid-19

Posted on April 22, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

Wednesday, April 22,2020

Encouraging news from our Governor and Health Authorities:  Cases of Covid-19 and hospitalizations are staring to slow.  Plans are being made for the beginning of return to normal and next month (May) may be a turning point for our state.

At Snuffin’s, we continue to facilitate wedding date changes for later this year or even next year. We do not charge change fees.

Your emails will be answered promptly and we are monitoring our phones from home.

Facetime and Skype work just fine for personal consultations and we quickly complete full proposals with menu and rental choices.  When time and safety allows, we will schedule in-person meetings for rental equipment, tastings and menu adjustments.

In the meantime, we all need to continue to social distance, hand wash, wear masks in public and take care of our families and communities.

“We are staying safe, we are strong, we will be ready when business returns!”

Snuffin’s Catering Update

A month has passed in the blink of an eye! Our kitchen is shuttered, planners working from home – the new normal.
Working with our clients to reschedule their weddings and events is going smoothly and we are keeping everyone in the loop for progress.

It’s gratifying that our wedding couples are doing their best to take this health crisis seriously, yet continue planning for their forever lives. Snuffin’s Catering will be ready to resume daily operations when events will again be allowed.

Wash hands, stay at home, wear masks if out and about. Be kind !

As per Governor Inslee’s directions, Snuffin’s Catering will suspend daily business operations until the current crisis is over.  Our kitchen is closed for now.  Any remaining fresh products will be donated to our local food bank.

Our office will continue to be monitored from home. Both email and phone will be checked regularly.

The best way to contact us will be via info@snuffins.com.   If you have a pressing question, you may call 253-318-0125 and Annie will reply promptly.

Our goal is to practice all safety requirements to keep our staff healthy, conserve resources and be ready to resume business when the crisis is past.  Our staff is on standby status so they will retain their jobs and be ready to again serve our valued clients when the time is right.

Please, please,  practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently, sanitize areas touched by others, help neighbors and friends and stay at home if you can.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support in this difficult time for our State and Country.

Thank you from the Snuffin’s Catering Team!

What Happens to the Food if an Event is Canceled?

Posted on March 14, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

MOST OFTEN ASKED QUESTION: What happens to the food if an event is postponed or canceled?

Snuffin’s Catering donates the food to a hot meal site such as Nativity House or Tacoma Rescue Mission. They have the kitchen equipment, refrigeration, etc. to serve and/or store quantities of prepared food and supplies.

Particularly at an uncertain time like now, we all must help provide for those in most need!

Sanitation to Protect our Clients and Staff

Posted on March 13, 2020 by Sharon Snuffin

After being in the food service business for over 40 years, Snuffin’s Catering has always been proactive in proper sanitation practices. Both our kitchen and event staff are trained to properly wash hands as well as the correct use of protective gloves.

To further protect guests at our catered events, we will be placing single-use plastic gloves at the beginning of all buffets. One of our staff members will be stationed to remind guests to use them as they handle serving utensils.

Yesterday, the guests at Rags Wearable Art loved the gloves being available and got right into the spirit of protecting the food and each other from possible issue.
All of us need to remember to wash our hands with soap and warm water – vigorously and frequently!

December Wedding Review

Posted on December 28, 2019 by Sharon Snuffin

Thank you, Matthew and Ronnie, for the lovely review on Wedding Wire!

Perfect Choice for our Winter Wedding

Snuffin’s Catering provided us with an excellent experience throughout our entire wedding process. After our initial consultation with Cherie, she provided us with recommendations and cost saving options to help keep us within our budget. On the wedding day, they provided excellent service to our guests and helped us to have a seamless dinner experience. Our guest loved the food they served. Snuffin’s also helped us to put on a spiked hot chocolate and coffee bar which our guests really enjoyed. It is easy to see why they are a preferred caterer for our wedding venue. We experienced no issues at all with Snuffin’s Catering, and I recommend them to anyone in the Seattle area.

A review from a February bride:

Posted on March 18, 2019 by Sharon Snuffin

Delicious!

Snuffins did an amazing job catering our wedding! Their process was seamless and Sharon always responded to my questions as quickly as possible. The day of the wedding, there were several servers and bartenders and they were dressed very professionally. We even had a dedicated server just for the two of us! We decided to go with their salmon and beef shortribs. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the shortribs were so tender. I also wanted to surprise my now husband with a special meal and asked Sharon if it was possible. She had no issues with it and he was surprised! At the end of the night, they even gave us a take home basket with a small sample of each of the different foods. Highly recommend hiring Snuffins! You will not regret it!
